HOYER takes stake in Antwerp’s Combinant terminal
Hamburg logistics business expands its European intermodal network
Hamburg – August 7th, 2013 – Internationally active logistics provider HOYER, with its headquarter in Hamburg, is continuing to build up its intermodal activities in terminals. As part of this drive, HOYER has acquired an interest in the Antwerp Combinant terminal held by Belgium’s Inter Ferry Boats (IFB). This acquisition reinforces the Hamburg company’s already existing presence in one of Europe’s most important transport hubs for the chemicals industry.
The Combinant board of administration has welcomed HOYER’s participation. As a result of the acquisition, the terminal’s shareholder structure now covers the whole supply chain. In addition to HOYER, one of the leading suppliers of bulk logistics services, the other partners in the Antwerp terminal are BASF, representing the shippers, and the combined transport operator HUPAC.
In addition to its participation in Combinant, HOYER already runs its own terminals at Schkopau and Dormagen and is a partner in Kombi–Terminal Ludwigshafen. The Antwerp terminal is capable of handling around 150,000 unit loads per year. Expansion of the terminal infrastructure strengthens the HOYER group’s intermodal network and makes it possible to increase grouping of transport flows.
Antwerp’s central location guarantees HOYER access to the most important chemicals markets in Europe. In addition to straightforward handling and transport services, HOYER is also planning to build up its range of services in Antwerp dealing with tank containers.
The terminal’s location will also be of benefit for the Supply Chain Solutions business unit of HOYER: this division offers the full spectrum of logistics services for the chemicals industry.
HOYER thus continues on its consistent path of investing in its intermodal transport business, simultaneously reinforcing its position in the Benelux region.
